Voznayte Rekazhgrazhni Zhamra
Nalydya's High Space Fleet
The Voznayte Rakazhgrazhni Zhamra was formed out of the old Imperial Nalydian Hochraumflotte and Heimschutzflotte, making it the newest branch of the Nalydian military. Unlike the fully professional ZJR, the VRZ is a semi-professional force.
Because of the nature of the VRZ, its ranks are largely filled with older individuals than the VJR. Training is much more extensive - lasting for a decade - resulting in the average age for crew members on the ships being early to mid thirties.
The VRZ maintains its own planetary assault force - the Paramarine Korps. These troops have similar training and equipment to the standard ground army, the ZJR. The Paramarines also have their own special forces, the Paramarine Raiders.
The Yamsai Naval Institute is the premier school for VRZ officers.
Design Philosophy:
VRZ design philosophy centers around force projection. As an offense-minded arm, the VRZ fields warships capable of operating independently from bases of supply nearly indefinitely. Consequently, Nalydian vessels are generally very large, well-armoured (multiple armour belts and honeycombed interiours), and considerably protected. Aesthetically, most Pordish warships are characterized by tall funnels (used to divert excess energies and particulates away from their hulls), half-sphere blister-turrets that dot their entire extents from bow to stern, and hulls that are long and flat accented with sharp lines that are vaguely reminiscent of wet-naval warships.
Offensively, VRZ weapon complements are centered around the "big three" of weapon types - relativistic kinetic rifles and mortars (PSKR and PSKM), entropic nullification cannons (ENS), and rift-pulse discharge cannons (RPDC) - all of which come in a variety of sizes ranging from 250cm up to 2,000m.
PSKR and PSKM pieces are arranged in turrets housing two, three, or four pieces. These kinetic batteries are powerful enough to hurl dense slugs at considerable portions the speed of light - just under it in some cases or even past it, should the situation allow for it. Ordinance types range from simple solid shot or semi-guided "smart" munitions, to advanced multi-stage penetrators and vast clouds of formation-rending scattershot.
Equivalent in importance to the kinetic batteries are the ENS batteries. ENS weapons cause molecular destabilization and eventual disintegration, and as such are just as devastating as the other two primary weapon types. They are often often arranged in tri-barreled rotating turrets, and are usually used in conjunction with RPDC pieces to create mixed-type batteries that perform well in offensive and defensive capacities.
Rift-Pulse Discharge Cannons form the third weapon type of the primary triad of VRZ offensive systems. Arranged in fashions similar to ENS batteries (in tri-barreled mounts), they are capable of extremely high rates of fire, and this combined with the ability of each bolt to locally rend space-time - even through FTLi - makes them considerably effective. They are also often used in conjunction with ENS batteries to create mixed-type batteries that perform well in both offensive and defensive capacities.
The second-line offensive weapon complements of Nalydian warships include the Projector Array system, missile batteries, and the dual active/passive Natyl and Mylchar Arrays. The Projector Array provides both protection and offensive power; defensively it surrounds each vessel with a shield that can be linked with other ships in the formation or projected out to encompass a fleet in a spherical construct. Offensively attacks can be generated off of it. The Natyl and Mylchar Arrays are not as visible as the Projector Array: they operate as part of the fabric of space and time, serving as both sensor and hammer.
There is quite a bit of automation on many of the vessels, however, there are also manual override systems, and even then, most of these are closed systems, and extremely difficult to disable. In the event of boarding, internal defense AIs coordinate defensive turrets and environmental controls. Nanites are quite often used in defense, though that does not mean crew members are not: GAR-25 are commonly used to defend ships, as well as heavier weapons in some cases, with the largest of ships being home to full complements of Paramarines, sometimes even equipped with armour, artillery and lighter vehicles.

Battleships/Dreadnoughts/Monitors:
The vast behemoths fielded by the VRZ are impressive to behold. Because of the size of the vessels (often hundreds of kilometers in length), the battleship force is unlike anything else in the Empire. The command and assault battleships are generally self-supporting entities, complete with their own on-board economies, production facilities, etc. Crew often serve on these ships for life, and it isn't out of place to find children born on such vessels who grow up only to return to serve as part of their crew. |
Cruisers:
Cruisers are the primary (smaller) line-of-battle craft in use by the VRZ. Ordinarily it would be expected that these craft would not be built as well as the larger battleships, however this is not the case. With the cruisers being primarily rift ships, they are expected to stand well in the face of the sickly domain, and thus cannot be assembled cheaply. Thus, cruisers tend to be very durable in of themselves, and their presence on the field of battle should not be scoffed at. |
Stealth Vessels:
Stealth craft have always been a part of Nalydian fleet doctrine. With the advent of the "runner" type vessel, Pordish admirals were given a craft that could pack a punch as well as slip away though the fabric. They carry a variety of powerful weaponry and sensory suites, as well as maintain the able to disappear from hostile view; rift seal cloaking is the primary stealth measure these vessels employ: they act as submarines - slip in cloaked, decloak, fire, then slip away. |
